Our story

Kura means growth in the Kinyarwanda language. By providing growth opportunities for our women farmers, we all grow together. Our vision is to support, train and encourage more women to be independent agricultural entrepreneurs who can transform and strengthen rural economies.

KURA was established in 2020 by Rwandan entrepreneur Lydia Bahunde-Akinyanju. During her many visits to eastern Rwanda, Lydia met with incredibly resourceful and dynamic women working on farms to provide for their families. Visualising their dreams, she founded KURA with a mission to create a sustainable agricultural industry in Rwanda that puts women smallholder farmers and their produce on the global map.

Lydia holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia and completed her postgraduate studies in leadership at University College London. She has nearly 20 years’ experience in client relations, education, leadership and management, and a passion for aiding people in utilising their knowledge for their own betterment.
